El norte en las fuentes merovingias. Perspectivas iniciales

Abstract

Este trabajo pretende analizar las caracterizaciones que circulaban sobre el norte de Europa y sus habitantes, que circulaban en la Galia merovingia, más precisamente, entre sus círculos eruditos y aristocráticos. Además, indagaremos sobre el modo en que estas descripciones eran utilizadas por los autores de los diversos relatos. Para llevar a cabo este trabajo, recurriremos a fuentes narrativas, historiográficas y hagiográficas que fueron compuestas en esa región durante la temprana Edad Media.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of Northern Europe and its inhabitants, as depicted in Merovingian Gaul, in particular amongst the aristocratic and learned circles. Moreover, I will enquire on the manner in which these descriptions were used by the authors of the sources. I will assess historiographical and hagiographical sources composed in Merovingian Gaul during the Early Middle Ages.
