La mirada entre texto y fotografía : el libro-arte de Sophie Calle

Abstract

En este artículo la propuesta es trabajar aspectos fundamentales de la percepción e interpretación entre el acto de contemplar, de mirar y de observar en el libro-arte Douleur exquise (1985-2003) de la artista contemporánea francesa Sophie Calle (1953). ¿Cómo leer un libro-arte en el cual se cruza la fotografía y la palabra? ¿Cómo posicionarse entre el acto de leer y de mirar?. En esta obra, se dislocan los espacios y la miradas lectoras y espectadoras ante la fotografía y el texto en interacción. Dispositivos visuales (fotografías) se entrecruzan con aquellos textuales (literarios), creando espacios intersticiales entre imagen y escritura. Se analizan las secuencias del libro-arte, en la construcción del dolor, en los estudios del retrato, del autorretrato, lo íntimo, el diario de viaje y la iconografía de la artista, que se manifiestan como técnicas y estrategias visuales y de interpretación. El autorretrato, el diario íntimo, el punctum y la iconografía de la autora, son recorridos por el campo experimental de la fotografía y la literatura, colocando ante una mirada dislocada al lector-espectador, en la encrucijada entre ver y leer, observar y analizar.

In this article the proposal is to work on fundamental aspects of perception and interpretation between the act of contemplating, looking and observing in the book-art Douleur exquise (1985-2003) by the French contemporary artist Sophie Calle (1953). How to read an art-book in which photography and word intersect? How we choose between the act of reading and looking?. In this art work, the gaze is dislocated between the fact of Reading and contemplate between photography and text. Visual devices (photographs) intersect with those textual (literature), creating interstitial spaces between image and writing. The sequences of the book-art are analyzed, in the construction of pain, in the studies of the portrait, self-portrait, the intimate, the diary and the iconography of the artist, which are manifested as visual and interpretive techniques and strategies, transforming into body to the extent that through experience you access a level of perception of what is experienced.The self-portrait, the intimate diary, the punctum and the iconography of the author, are the perspectives through the experimental field of photography and literature, placing the reader-viewer at the crossroads between seeing and reading, observing and analyzing.
