This work exposes the first results of the solar thermal efficiency of water´s heaters, built by teachers and students of the Faculty of Exact Sciences during a volunteer program dependent on the Secretariat of University Policies.
The construction of the solar heaters was made with low cost materials and available in any local commerce. The system is monitored using a data acquisition built by students of the electronic engineering career as a final project work topic. The study of the functioning of the system was carried out by measuring and storing the relevant variables: temperatures throughout the collecting area, water´s temperature at the collector and in the container tank, ambient temperature and solar radiation, which allowed obtaining the collector thermal performance of 45%. No inconveniences have been recorded in the operation so it is concluded that the construction of solar heating has been successful and optimal to improve the quality of life of families, educational institutions, health posts settled primarily in rural areas.
