The autor describes the group A lrna from the genuH Paspalum on the basis of a manuscript by Parodi and Nicora (1966). He earries out a morphoIogic and cytologie study of the two speeies that constitute this group: P. alrnum Chase and P. hexastachyurn Parodio P. alrnum presents twenty four somatie chromosomes and at Metafase J, it behaves as an autotetraploid species ,:formed up to -6 IV's). Here it is reported, for the first time, a chromosomic recoullt of P. hexastachyurn (2n = 12). This is the lowest numbér, known for the genus Paspalum, eonñrmingthe presence of the basic number x = 6, different from the most frequent iÍn the genus, which is x = 10.
