Estudios sistemáticos en turnera (Turneraceae) I. Series salicifoliae y stenodictyae
Turnera L. is arranged in nine series. At present the genus includes around 100 species in America and two in Africa. This paper submits the revision of the series SalicifoliaeUrb. with 12 species and Stenodictyae Urb. with nine species. Two new taxa are described: T. ignota and T. hindsiana subsp. brachyantha, both of Salicifoliae. These series include most of the sylvatic species and also the largest-sized members of the genus: many of them are big shrubs and two species are arborescent. They live mainly in the Amazon basin. The series Salicifoliae has wide glabrous or glabrescent leaves, yellow flowers with glabrous or scarcely pilose ovary and obviously pilose seeds. It groups most of the species with free floral peduncle and developed pedicell. However, some species have sessile flowers, among which count the only species of this series with distinct nectaries on the petiole. The series Stenodictyae has orange-red flowers with pilose ovary and glabrous or minutely pubescent seeds. The floral peduncle is well developed while the pedicell is absent; most species show conspicuous nectaries on the petiole or the blade base. The prophylls are filiform or scale like in the Salicifoliae, while they are wide, involucral, with lateral appendages in the Stenodictyae. The fruit is externally tuberculated in most Salicifoliae, and it is verrucose or granulated in the Stenodictyae. Keys for the identification of species, distribution maps and illustrations are provided.
