a: Acrem onium , Aspergillus, Chae-tomium, Fusarium,
Phoma y Ulocladium.
dió a Chrysosporium keratinophilum , Gymna-scella
Cladosporium cladosporio-ides, Epicoccum nigrum,
Penicillium spp.y Ulocla-dium atrum complex.
In semidesertic zones o f northwestern Argentina
being within 2000 and 3700m high and in summer, 26 sam-
ples o f soils and 41 samples o f autochthonous flora were
collected by using keratinic and vegetal bait (epiphytic and
endophytic) which resulted in 555fungal isolations divided
into 60 genera and 100 species. Genera with the highest
number o f species were: Acrem o-nium , Aspergillus, Chae-
tomium, Fusarium, Phoma and Ulocladium. The greatest
number o f taxa was found in the three methodologies and
within 2000 and 3000m whereas major isolations in all the
altitudes were detected in epiphytic and endophytic fungi
in which Hyphomycetes was the most representative group
as to genera and species. Onygenales exhibited a low
presence in the keratinic substrata while Chrysosporium
kerati-nophilum, Gymnascella aurantiaca and Aphanoa-
scus fulvescens showed the most prevalence, and in other
taxonomic groups Paecilomyces lilacinus was the most
frequent species.
Here it must be pointed out the ability o f this substratum to detect the presence o f Fonsecaea pedrosoi, an
important agent o f chromoblastomycosis in Argentina.
In the epiphytic fungi,41,8% o f isolates were represented
by:Alternaría alternata, Cladospo-rium cladosporioides,
Epicoccum nigrum , Penicillium spp. and Ulocladium
atrum complex. In the endophytic fungi those belonging
to the genera Chaetomium, Aspergillus, Phoma and
Fusarium exhibited the major diversity o f species below
3000m; at higher altitude only Phoma kept a high diver-
sity.
A. alternata complex, was the species showing
the gratest adaptative capacity in the three methodologies
and in the two altitudes.
The studied area revealed that the altitude seemin-
gly does not alter the diversity o f species on the substrates
analized wherein the autochthonous flora o f the region
rather than the soil seem to be the most suitable reservoir
and habitat.
