Políticas y prácticas de alfabetización de misioneros protestantes entre Qom del Noroeste chaqueño (Argentina, Chaco, 1964-1973 circa)

Abstract

Las décadas del sesenta y del setenta fueron un periodo de fuerte impulso a la alfabetización de indígenas en el Chaco (noreste de Argentina). Estados, organizaciones religiosas y asociaciones civiles desenvolvieron políticas de alfabetización heterogéneas y, en algunos casos, divergentes. Este artículo aborda las acciones de alfabetización desarrolladas entre 1964 y 1973 circa por misioneros protestantes en la Junta Unida de Misiones (JUM), las que estuvieron destinadas a indígenas qom del extremo noroccidental chaqueño. Se analiza el proyecto social, religioso y educativo de la JUM a fin de dar cuenta de que la intervención misional protestante se constituyó en el escenario de acceso a prácticas de lectura y escritura bilingüe qom/ castellano de qom de esta región. A partir de fuentes documentales, trabajos de otros investigadores y entrevistas a alfabetizadores, indígenas alfabetizados/as y religiosos vinculados con la JUM, reconstruimos las condiciones históricas: políticas estatales de alfabetización, características institucionales de la JUM (política y acciones, áreas geográficas de cobertura, grupos destinatarios y misioneros participantes), relaciones con el Estado, propósitos de la alfabetización y materiales escritos empleados.The '60s and '70s decades were a period of great impulse to the indigenous literacy in Chaco (North-east of Argentina). States, religious organizations and civil associations developed heterogeneous literacy policies and, in sorne instances, divergent.
