Abstract

En este artículo se efectúa una breve descripción del fondo documental del Archivo General de la Provincia de Corrientes. El mismo se conformó primordialmente como resultado de la labor administrativa de las autoridades de la comarca desde fines del siglo XVI hasta principios del siglo XX. Su mayor volumen documental corresponde a las últimas décadas de la era colonial y al período independiente previo a la Organización Nacional. Para la región del Nordeste, este archivo tiene un valor excepcional ya que además de la información vinculada con la evolución de Corrientes contiene datos importantes sobre las áreas vecinas, Chaco y Misiones, que no conformaron una estructura estatal hasta fines del siglo XIX.

This article gives a brief description of the documentary collection of the General Archive of the Province of Corrientes. It was formed primarily as a result of the administrative work of the authorities of the district from the end of the 16th century until the first decades of the 20th century. Its largest documentary volume corresponds to the last decades of the colonial era and to the independent period prior to the National Organization. For the Northeast region this archive has an exceptional value since in addition to the information linked to the evolution of Corrientes it contains important data on the neighboring areas, Chaco and Misiones, which did not form a state structure until the end of the 19th century.
