If the competition is for a plant community composed of poaceaeand broadleaf species, the most time period of interference tolerated by the crop, without affecting its yield, occurs before the sixth or eighth leaf (stage V6 and V8). Weed competition in a maize hybrid was evaluated at an experimental site by field trial. In a RCBDwith three replications, a short chemical fallow was carried out with 4 treatments that consisted of traditional and residual herbicides applied 35 days before planting temperate x tropical maize (P32R48) planted at 0.525 m. and 3.2 seeds per linear meter. Before the emission of the belly, the height of the cultivation plants and the number of weeds per surface in the central rows of each plot were measured. The weeds identified were Amaranthus sp. and Leptochloa sp. The emergence of these weeds is contracted before the emergence of the crop in 25 days from the application (DDA) of the herbicides in treatments 2 and 4. In the state of three leaves with corn (V3) and 35 dDa still the treatments 1 and 3 remained without weeds. The height of the plants (p=0.0012) ranged between 1.67 to 1.81 m. in treatments with residual herbicides and from 0.95 to 1.1 m. in the conventional ones. Likewise, the number of weeds per area between V6 and V8 was 40 and 24 m2 with herbicide without residual and residual effect respectively. Significant differences were found between treatments for plants of Amaranthus sp. and not for Leptochloa sp.It is expected to find differences in performance.
