The present work evaluates the statistical behavior of the hydrological variable of the daily media flow at Corrientes section of Paraná River. Even when the hydrological variable which is measured is the hydrometric height, flow series (official) are obtained from the relation height-flow at that section. The effects of the temporal series length on the statistics that describe it were specifically analyzed. As base data the temporal series starting from 1904 was used and within it the work was carried out over the last fifty years data, which is called “modern series”, and in order to organize the work it was split into the following periods: 1970-2000, 1970-2010, and 1970-2016. For these series the following characteristics were calculated: media, standard deviation, variation coefficient, asymmetry coefficient, kurtosis coefficient, maximum and minimum value. The descriptive statistics is the base for the statistic inference which is used to define critical design events in important waterworks like defense systems against river floods at many cities of the province in the Argentinean northeast that are located on the Paraná river banks. This works try to contribute to the discussion about the security standards of the already built constructions.
