The Plata Basin is facing a low water period of such magnitude that in order to find similar situations it is necessary to go back many years ago. This condition affects the levels and flows of Paraná River at the section or Corrientes. Some people who are no related to the study environment say that after strong severe low water levels of Paraná River, a rebound effect could be expected in a close future, that is to say flooding. However, is there any empirical evidence that support such statements? To answer this question, an exploration analysis was presented, in order to look for these empirical evidences through the visual analysis of graphics, which were developed to that effect, with no deepening in statistical validations that could be the object of a future work. In the present work the series of daily mean flow-rates at Corrientes sections from the period of the hydrological year of 1969-70 to 2019-20, which is called the “modern series” and that, was obtained from the Integrated Hydrological Data Base 2020 (Public Work Department, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Policy- National System of Hydric Information- Argentina) were analyzed. With these data, the monthly mean flow-rates were calculated, and they were the base material for the study. Then, for each hydrological year, a minimum and a maximum of the monthly mean flow-rates for the next five years were determined. After that, these data were processed to obtain their descriptive statistics, which were related among them and in a chronologic way. The results of the conducted analysis do not show evidence of that the principal stretches are predictors of extraordinary overflows in the next five years.
