In the last years been made significant progress in the development of new criteria conceming the seismic design, concluding that the seismic performance is essentially made of a structural dynamic and have to do with imposition displacement and not with forces. The structure must have ductility to assessment the impact from a force-based of seismic, and capacity to dissipate energy through the incursión in the inelastic field of the deformations, without losing strength. The special design of portions of structures with this function- dissipate the seismic wave energy and not absorb the impact of this energy-, is provides for the new philosophy of the “method of design by capacity”.The other new perspective is the “Seismic performance analysis” that is the design of the structure to get different levels of behavior associated with different levels of earthquakes. This levels of structural behavior are the limits of ductility, inter-story drift, damage indices limits, accelerations principies. In the process of preliminary design, where the characteristics of stiffness-strength to satisfy the proposed limits are defined, the invariant parameter is the yield curvature of the portions of the structures that will be in the nonlinear field, and in consequence the displacement yield drift of the system. In this paper are analyzed several methodologies for determined the displacement yield drift in top of reinforced concrete frames seismic structures, and is provides a new altemative that consist to approximate the discreet results of the nonlinear static analysis through neural network. The modeling of the structure is made with a number of variables that are considered essentially influential in the determination of the response. The combination of the variables input that defined the problem, are obtained through the “design of Computer experiments methodology” in the context of the limit valúes. With the results of the data-base of the displacements yield drift in the top, obtained in every combination with the nonlinear static analysis (push-over), one trains a neural network. When a preliminary particular design is performed, the neural network allow to calculated the displacement yield drift in a fast and efficient way.In addition number examples are offered, with a comparative analysis of the different altematives, proving the method that was proposed in front of the available experimental results.
