In recent decades, the dynamics observed in cities has as its central axis the technological advance that has impacted not only on the modes of production, but also on the forms of social interaction. The reduction of distance and time is the central quality of this new form of bond, which is why it requires ways of organizing urban space centered on empirical observation and forecasting. Geographical science plays a central role in this scenario, given that its links with other disciplines allow it to expand its analytical capacity and contribute to the guidelines established in land use planning plans, based on its conceptual matrix [driven by geographical approaches] and methodological [favored by spatial analysis]. However, the geography of transport constitutes a sub-branch of geography that allows the identification and analysis of problems related to transport, mobility and accessibility, as well as supporting other interventions in urban space [land use, climate urban, etc.].
The main objective of the Thesis is to analyze the distribution of sociodemographic, economic, environmental characteristics, as well as aspects related to mobility and accessibility in order to segment the study area [city of Resistencia] into Transport Zones that serve as instrument for urban planning and for transport planning. Specifying the objective requires the collection and elaboration of variables that represent different themes of reality [called dimensions], in such a way that the resulting units are representative and homogeneous. The information sources used come from public entities, research projects and on-site survey. The implemented methodology is supported by spatial analysis techniques [available in Geographic Information Systems] and statistical packages [SPSS], particularly those aimed at grouping [grouping analyzes], the identification of clusters [autocorrelation indices] and densities [Kernel density].
The results obtained show the characteristics of the study area, represented by the joint distribution of the dimensions that allow identifying 43 Transport Zones. This level of segmentation is useful for transportation and land use planning since it combines variables from various themes and can be spatially adjusted due to the fact that the allocation methodology is fixed.
