Diabetes mellitus is a disorder with a major impact in individual and collective health, and the monitoring of it's premature mortality is relevant. The objective of this article is to describe the trend of diabetes premature mortality rate in Misiones during the period 1990-2018. We developed an ecological design. Premature death was defined as those that happened in the population between 30 to 69 years oíd. Summary measures were calculated and trends in premature mortality rate were analyzed through Poisson segmentary regression. During the 1990-2018 period 2564 premature deaths due to diabetes mellitus were registered in Misiones province and its trend increased. Higher mortality rates and higher annual percentage change were registered in men. Our results are compatible with other observations done at national and international level. Premature mortality rate due to diabetes mellitus was found to be increasing in Misiones between 1990 to 2018 period, and the scene described seems unfavorable to the success of the goal of reducing diabetes premature mortality rate.
