The Iberá Natural Reserve (known in Spanish as RENEI), hard natural and cultural heritage as regards preservation, conservation and defense of its unique biodiversity, scenic beauty and outstanding size, since it covers a 13,000 km2 freshwater reservoir. These characteristics are intertwined with Iberá inhabitants’ cultural knowledge, whose ways of living depict distinct popular identities have played an important role in the land occupation on the wetland fringe. Although the settlements are nearby, they are detached from each other and isolated from the province territory. As time went by, and thanks to the promotion of the pristine features of Iberá Natural Reserve, it became an attractive touristic destination in the North East part of Argentina. The present work will display a summary of that territorial configuration as well as its inhabitants’ point of view.
