Rainfall intensity and climate change : trends and interannual variabilities registered in some localities of the Northeast Argentina (1971-2019 period)
Rainfall intensity is an index that relates the amount of rainfall as a function of time. Its importance lies not only in the influence it has on the geographic space, but it is also considered as an indicator of extreme climatic, given that the intense rainfall had significant changes during the last decades. More and more intense rains were registered in different sectors of the planet and they occurred with greater frequency, which increases the risks in the most exposed environments and societies. In this sense, the analysis of trends and variabilities of rainfall intensity would allow the development of adaptation and mitigation mechanisms. The goal is to study the temporal behavior of the rainfall intensity, examining its trends and interannual variabilities during the last 50 years (1970-2019), for some localities in argentine northeast. In the research, a statistical treatment of annual rainfall intensity data was carried out. The time series analysis technique was used, where the trend was estimated through simple linear regression and the interannual variability was examined from the calculation of different relative variation rates. In general, rainfall intensity in argentine northeast experienced a sustained increase in the last 50 years, but there were decades where the variable had a decreasing trend. Likewise, in the study space there were changes in the interannual variability of the indicator, but such variations were more evident in some particular cases.
