Intrusos o propietarios : argumentos y percepciones sobre el derecho a la propiedad de la tierra del indígena chaqueño

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo es analizar la manera en que evolucionaron los argumentos y percepciones relativos a la propiedad de la tierra por parte de los grupos indígenas del Chaco Argentino. Para ello se realizó una revisión de los discursos producidos por el blanco en el mismo espacio chaqueño, desde el siglo XIX hasta avanzada la década de 1960. Estos discursos, procedentes de funcionarios públicos, misioneros, periodistas y colonos inmigrantes, son representativos de un complejo imaginario, construido en torno al indígena chaqueño. En él, el tema de la tierra ocupó un papel prioritario, ya que era el elemento más "visible" del contacto interétnico. Luego del sometimiento de los grupos indígenas, el Estado consideró a esta tierra como "pública" e intentó exhibirla como "tierra del porvenir", para atraer a los inmigrantes europeos.The purpose of this work is to analyse the how the arguments and perceptions related to owning property have evolved among the native groups in the Argentinean Chaco. A review was made of the speeches made by the white man from the 19th century until the decade of 1960s in the same space of Chaco. These speeches are representative of an complex imaginary universe, built around the natives, and they come from public officials, missionaries, journalists and immigrant colonists, The topic of land carries out a high-priority function, being the most visible element in the inter-ethnic contact. After the subjugation of the native groups, the State considered this land to be "public" and tried to exhibit it as the "land of the future", in order to attract European immigrants.
