Not all interactions between colonizers and
indigenous populations were destructive. Jesuit fathers greatly
influenced the development of greater Paraguay, particularly creating an impact on the Guarani population of the region. This article assesses the demographic impact, for good and ill, of foreign
mission fathers on a local South American population over two
centuries.
