Poblaciones asilvestradas de chital (axis axis) (artiodactyla: cervidae) en la reserva provincial Iberá, Corrientes, Argentina

Abstract

El chital (Axis axis) es un ciervo originario de Asia que ha sido introducido en varios países, entre ellos Argentina, donde se ha asilvestrado. Es considerado una especie potencialmente invasora, que puede tener impactos negativos sobre la regeneración de la vegetación nativa y sobre las poblaciones de cérvidos locales, con las que puede competir e incluso desplazar, y a las que también puede transmitir enfermedades. Este trabajo brinda información sobre la existencia de poblaciones asilvestradas y establecidas en la Reserva Provincial Iberá, en la provincia de Corrientes. Se proveen datos sobre el origen de estas poblaciones, sobre el tamaño y composición de los grupos en el sur de la Reserva y el hábitat que frecuentan, y se sugieren estudios sobre su biología y ecología.The Axis deer (Axis axis) is native to Asia and has been introduced in several countries, including Argentina, where it has become wild.
