Sede Generalicia.
Since the Generalship of Claudio Acquaviva (1581-1615), the Society of Jesus had a policy of constructing an official account about the activities of the Jesuits. This project resulted in the «Histories of the Company of Jesus» of Sacchini, Jouvancy, and Cordara, written in Rome between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. At the same time, «Histories» were written in each province as well, in order to gather «displayable» information for the general «Histories» mentioned above. For example, this was the case of the texts of Techo, Lozano and Guevara for the province of Paraguay. In this article, I intend to observe the influences in the style of writing, as well as the topics presented in a text which had the double function of being «shown», and at the same time, of recovering the news that contributed to the general «Histories». This will allow us to delineate the official perspective, which was constructed on the Paraguayan province from the distant Roman head office.
