The object of study is the teaching epistemological conceptions of the professors of Mental Health and
Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of the Northeast in the 2018 school year.
To delimit concepts to carry out the analysis of the object of study, other work carried out on teachers
from other levels of education and from other fields other than health, which allow justifying and
documenting the relevance of this project. In this sense, Porlán Ariza et al (1997:138) have been
followed, who identify teaching epistemological conceptions as a "set of ideas and ways of acting that
teachers have, which are more or less directly related to school knowledge and with its process of
construction and facilitation, be these ideas of a more epistemological-philosophical, strict, psychological,
didactic-curricular, methodological, experiential level, etc. or they are manifested in a more or less tacit or
explicit way”.
This project has been carried out from a design with a non-experimental, cross-sectional,
quantitative approach and with exploratory and descriptive scope. The design has had the necessary
flexibility to go through changes and modifications, in opportunity to notice new situations, linked to the
project, which implied changes not only in the question but also in the purpose of the investigation. The
application of an Inventory for understanding in the study was used as an exploratory resource of the
field.
The teaching epistemological conceptions of the Mental Health and Psychiatry professors of the
Faculty of Medicine of the UNNE have been described, identifying the personal didactic model,
differentiating the subjective theory of learning, determining the Image of science and the teaching
methodology.
Evidence of the existence of epistemological profiles has been obtained, where a wide range of
indicators that can be considered antagonistic is expressed, a plurality of options in relation to the
knowledge of a concept. The inclination towards the different slopes of empiricism keeping distance with
the other options is an expression of heterogeneous thought. This variability could be partly related to the
disciplinary field of teacher training, taking into account the permanence of traces of Psychiatry
paradigms, which have already been overcome, but which challenge professional work, associated with
the current tension in the field of knowledge and practice.
It is interesting to note that new trends in the field of education are present, in some cases with
strong adherence, which position the student in a decisive place, with the active accompaniment of the
teacher who, in search of significant learning, plans teaching in contact with reality through practical
activities in an active approach. This is indicative of the training paths followed by teachers, with the
intention of learning to teach.
These findings stimulate the critical analysis of the teaching practice, of the related teaching and
learning models, as well as the application of proposals aimed at implementing training strategies
according to the mental models of the students. This includes continuous teacher training and the
permanent didactic treatment of the disciplinary contents, as well as the tools and instruments to be used
to achieve the active motivation of the apprentices who, through the challenges that are proposed to them, manage to reorganize the pre-existing schemes. and in this way, continue the path of construction of
subjectivity as a current, historical-cultural way of thinking, feeling and perceiving the world conditioned
by the reality of the context that surrounds us.
