Lesiones sistémicas en un canino por intoxicación ofídica

Abstract

Un paciente canino fue atendido en el Hospital de Clínicas de la Facultad de Ciencias Veterinarias de Corrientes, Argentina, por una mordedura en el miembro anterior derecho provocada por una serpiente del género Bothrops (yarará). Al ingresar el paciente revelaba midriasis, rinorragia bilateral e insensibilidad en el miembro afectado. Se diagnosticó intoxicación ofídica mediante exploración física y análisis de sangre. Se efectuó el tratamiento sintomático y se aplicó suero antiofídico por vía endovenosa, a pesar de lo cual el paciente murió. En la necropsia, las principales lesiones observadas fueron hemorragias en sistema nervioso central. El examen histopatológico reveló focos hemorragicos en cerebro y cerebelo, meninges intensamente edematizadas y escaso infiltrado inflamatorio. En miocardio se observó necrosis coagulativa de fibras musculares aisladas.A dog apparently bitten by a Bothrops sp. snake in the former right limb, entered at the Hospital of The School of Veterinary, Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, Corrientes, Argentina. Patient had midriasis, bilateral nose bleeding and insensibility of the bitten limb. Snake poisoning was diagnosed by means of exploration and blood sample analysis. Symptomatic treatment was performed, and antivenom was administered iv. Patient died few hours later, though. After necropsy, principal lesions were hemorrhage of central nervous system; histopathology revealed hemorrhage centers, and meninges had intense edema and scarce inflammatory infiltration. Heart showed coagulative necrosis of isolated muscular fibers.
