During the mid-twentieth century the government of General Juan Peron built two neighbourhoods in the city of Corrientes, “Peron” (now “Yapeyú”) and “Evita” (now “Beron de Astrada”). These were part of national planning carried out by Peron’s government as part of a vast program of public works. Among these, the improvement of the living conditions of the working class occupied a significant priority. At the time, located in the urban periphery they represented a novel contribution to the city, as evidenced by the street layout which provided a new housing logic. The implementation of a space behind the municipal boundary allowed for the possibility of individual front gardens, which coupled with the incorporation of sidewalk trees during the building phase and the design of green urban spaces, characterized both neighbourhoods as unique urban fragments in relation to the city’s central area.
