Efecto de las podas pre-cosecha en plantas de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) cultivadas en Corrientes, Argentina

Abstract

La poda pre-cosecha de tallos de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) puede realizarse con diversos fines. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar los efectos de un sistema de tres alturas de podas en tres momentos de cosecha, sobre el rendimiento y características comerciales de raíces. El ensayo se realizó en la Provincia de Corrientes, Argentina. Se evaluaron los cultivares o clones Rocha y Santacatarina y se establecieron cuatro tratamientos, un testigo sin podar y tres en función de las alturas de poda (apical, media y basal); sus efectos se registraron a los 60, 75 y 90 días después de realizada la misma (ddpo). Se midió diámetro del tallo; número, longitud, diámetro y rendimiento de raíces. Los resultados evidenciaron que el lapso poda-cosecha, más que la altura de las podas en sí mismas, modifica el rendimiento de raíces de ambos cultivares. La poda incrementó el rendimiento en el cv Santacatarina cuando la cosecha fue temprana (60 ddpo), mientras en el cv Rocha la poda solo fue favorable cuando la cosecha fue tardía (90 ddpo) en relación a sus respectivos testigos. El rendimiento potencial de las plantas testigo resultó contrapuesto al de las plantas podadas, se observó que Santacatarina es un clon tardío y Rocha es un clon temprano. Particularmente las alturas de poda condicionaron el rendimiento del cv Santacatarina, mientras el cv Rocha fue menos sensible.

The stem pre-harvest pruning of cassava plants (Manihot esculenta Crantz) can be done with different pourpouses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a system of three pruning heights in three harvest moments, on the yield and on root commercial characteristics. The assay was carried out in Corrientes Province, Argentina. The cultivars or clones Rocha and Santacatarina were evaluated and four treatments were established, a control with no pruning and the three other treatments according to the pruning height (apical, intermediate, basal); their effects were recorded at 60, 75 and 90 days after pruning (ddpo). The stem diameter and the number, length and diameter of the roots; as well as the total root yield were measured. The results showed that the pruning-harvest period, more than the height of the pruning’s itself, changed the behaviour of both cultivars. Pruning increased the early yield of the cv Santacatarina (60 ddpo), while in the cv Rocha pruning was favourable only when the harvest was late (90 ddpo) in relation to their respective controls. The potential yield of control plants was opposed to the pruned plants, it was observed that Santacatarina is a late clon and Rocha is an early clon. Pruning heights particularly conditioned the performance of the cv Santacatarina root yield, while cv Rocha was less sensitive to those treatments.
