This article is framed in the activities developed in the PI 16H418 (FHYCS, SInvyP, UNAM),
Metamorphosis of counting. Semiosis / Memory VI. Media, advertising and propaganda, directed by Dr.
Marcelino Garcia (2015-2017), and proposes an approach to the task of identifying, describing and
analyzing some relevant semiosis in the advertising campaign "Stories with a brilliant ending" -created
for Unilever - as well as risking some interpretations. The promoted products belong to the CIF brand and
the work was made on different television spots.
The approach to such publicity messages-complex speech, as corpus analysis, was carried out through the
operationalization of theoretical categories coming from Semiotics, Sociosemiotics and Discourse
Analysis, considered critical instruments that constitute our "toolbox" as analysts and scholars of social
discourse. The search for these regularities is aimed to confirm the following conjecture or hypothesis of
reading: the advertising message-discourse installs beliefs and consumption habits in the viewers-
receivers. Besides, this process contributes not only to the selling of a product but also to the proposal of
a specific repertoire of readings on how to behave, how to live, and what is considered acceptable or not.
It transmits certain topics and a world view that legitimize "acceptable" social practices.
From this perspective, some persuasive-discursive resources became important, for instance, the memory
and dialogic games – reflected in intertexual and interdiscursive relations proposed in the spots, the
rhetorical resources and the myths, among others.
Finally, the proposal advances towards a reflection on the sought-after effects of the analyzed advertising
messages, around issues concerning hegemonic social discourse and consumption habits.
